Today my room mate Audrey and I woke up around 10am and met up with some of our group at a restaurant in Recoleta. We took the Subte (subway) for the first time and somehow made it to the restaurant perfectly, without getting lost. It took us about 40 minutes to get there, and we ate lunch at a place called “Como en Casa.” I had a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. Then we all walked to the Feria Recoleta, which is an artisan fair. There were tons of tents with artists selling their work; it was like a souvenir fair but a lot nicer. Usually at souvenir-type places, the stuff that is for sale is pretty junky, but the things here were really nice, unique, and pretty inexpensive. I wanted to stop at every tent…I wanted to buy everything!! At the feria there were cotton candy stands, street food stands, stands selling hand squeezed orange juice, cakes, and other types of delicious food. There were also big lawns with people watching artists play music and some Brazilian guys performing some type of show. We walked around for hours, and at one point we came across an area of tight-ropers (slack liners) who were absolutely amazing, hopping from one line to another and doing 360 degree jumps, landing perfectly back on their skinny little rope. We stood there for a while watching, until I asked one of the guys if I could try. He directed us to another girl’s rope that was lower and easier, and a few of us tried to walk to rope, which is a lot harder than it looks!! We talked to her for a minute, and found out she’s from Costa Rica!! After slack-lining, we walked to a restaurant and sat for a while, and the big soccer game was playing on TV so we had horrible service since they were extremely busy. I made my way home and now I’m just waiting to eat dinner! It’s about 835 and we’ll probably eat around 9 and then get ready to go out. Today was a great day so far, and I’m still absolutely in love with BA.
